One of the things that Seattle can be very proud of is its education. This is not only because it has a great public education system for elementary and high school but also because it has among the best Seattle colleges and universities. One of the highly acclaimed public universities in the United States dealing on research, that is also quite respected, can be found among the number of universities in Seattle and this is the University of Washington. A 2006 study conducted by Newsweek International noted the University of Washington as being the world’s 22nd best university.

The Census Bureau of United States has noted in their survey that Seattle holds the highest percentage when it comes to having college graduates as compared to any other major city in the US. Probably because of the presence of great colleges in Seattle as well as universities, the city topped the list of the 69 largest cities in the US in the years 2005 and 2006 that are known for their literacy. In the year 2007, Seattle placed second in this study that was done by Central Connecticut State University.
